Vesper Everstarr

-
Ex Angel, Ex Street-kid, Ex Vigilante

A story of an odd, loner mercenary, and the crazy series of events they manage to land in. Along the way, they learn to hate, love, and find inner peace.

  2000
January 1st - Vesper Everstarr is born into the Everstarr family, youngest of 12. They were born to a radically religious family and isolated town in Texas. They are the final product of the Project Angel experiment, and was raised with reverence and cruelty. The town was run by a religious techno-cult that received secret funding from the NUSA, and other outside forces. Many corps and organizations took an interest in Dr. Stein Everstarr, Vesper's father and the town's ripper. Stein's experimental research paved the way for volatile, dangerous neuro-cyberware developments.
Project Angel - A secret, government-funded social + chrome experiment led by Dr. Stein Everstarr. The goal of this experiment was to create a squad of powerful, malleable individuals who could withstand great amounts of cyber-stimuli without breaking or burning. This project was deemed mostly a failure- most of the children died due to complications- and was put to a permanent end after an incident involving Vesper that caused a majority of the town to be wiped off the map.  2014
April 4th - During what was supposed to be a routine exam, Vesper is triggered into Cyberpsycosis, and goes on a rampage, annihilating everyone in sight. They burn down almost the entire town in their wake, and runs away, taking to the Eastcoast to start their new life.
April 5th - Vesper, traveling via stolen truck, gets into a horrific car accident while being chased by a group of Scavs. This is where they get their large head scar. After taking them back to their camp, they notice the unique chrome in their head. They crudely patch up their head injury, and harvest most non-essential organs, including their reproductive system, for profit. While arguing who to sell Vesper off to, they are able to make an escape, and continue to head East.During this period, Vesper gradually makes allies while making pit stops. Their small demeanor paired with their natural charisma led them to easily mesh with most people. They learned how to play and create music on the road for money and entertainment, discovering a lifelong passion. Several months later, they find their way to Brooklyn, where they settle down for a while.

  2020
During this time, Vesper spent their days creating music and gaining a cult-like following. They also became deeply ingrained in the gang/mafia ecosystem there. Their natural ability for netrunning and handling dangerous environments made them a valuable asset that would sometimes be fought over. Vesper thrived in this environment, and became quite the iconic punk figure during this time.
June 12th - Vesper is a punk icon in Brooklyn, and has cultivated a dedicated fanbase. Their band is opening for Samurai's reunion tour, which has a show in Brooklyn. There, Vesper encounters Johnny Silverhand for the first time. The two briefly fight, before Johnny reaches the cusp of overdosing on some strong Eastcoast drug. Vesper helps him come out of it, 'Narcanning' his ass, before leaving to perform. After their opening act, Vesper is called away on a mission from one of the gang families.Vesper and Johnny's Encounter - The two of them have virtually no memory of this day, Johnny because of his drug-fueled state, and Vesper due to their memory issues. Rogue had tagged along on tour to take advantage of gaining national intel + resources. She and Vesper met briefly before Johnny stormed in. Vesper spent their intro conversation together mostly flirting with Rogue, and trash talking Johnny and Samurai. They aren't a fan of the band, citing it to be surface level, un-nuanced punk rock music. Years later, after a few times in and out of The Afterlife, Rogue is struck by recollection one day, remembering who Vesper is, but keeping this information to herself.  2022
July 1st - Vesper's popularity has grown too much, and the NUSA, as well as Arasaka, have learned of their existence and have placed a hefty bounty on their head for capture. During one of the raids sent for Vesper, many of their chooms die in the crossfire. Vesper takes a vow of isolation to keep from anyone else getting hurt. They leave Brooklyn behind, becoming a Lone Nomad.

  2027
November 22nd - After a slip-up and skirmish between Vesper and a team of Arasaka agents, Vesper is incapacitated and captured. To avoid conflict with the NUSA, Vesper is brought to a lab in Japan. Vesper has no recollection of the rest of the time they spent under Arasaka's control.
Arasaka Control - The first several decades are spent unconcious. Arasaka makes countless, unsuccessful attempts at replicating Vesper's chrome and success onto other soldiers. Dr. Stein's technology, as well as technique on 'unlocking' said tech, were too advanced and unknown to the Arasaka scientists. After a long period of time, they conceided defeat and instead turned to make Vesper their own personal servant and mercenary. While successful at this, years down the line Vesper is able to break free from this control, and escape Arasaka and Japan.  2027-2070
No records of this time period known. No memories of this time period. To Vesper, it is as if time never passed during this era, and they ceased to exist.
  2070
January 7th - Vesper suddenly gains consciousness and finds themself in a small town on the Westcoast in Washington state. They are left with virtually no memories, and they have no idea where they are, or how old they are. Who they were. Why this has happened to them. Vesper's new life had started once again. In an attempt to rebuild their life, Vesper makes their way South to Night City.
Music never left Vesper, and as they traveled South they joined the underground music scene. They found community there, and kept a low profile, making just enough money to eat and clothe themselves. Although Vesper doesn't have a majority of their memories, they have this feeling and understanding that they need to keep a low profile. However, Vesper's unique abilities and troublesome habits seem to consistently rope them into trouble.

  2074
January 1st - In an attempt to regain control of things, they begin to take up mercenary work to stay afloat and sharp. During this time they distanced themself from the music scene, worried about becoming too popular and becoming a danger to those around them.
  2075
The gigs they take are often small, dirty jobs. The ones that no one wanted to take. They dedicated a lot of their time cleaning out Scav and XBD dens. As Vesper grows older, their power grows as well. They needed to let off steam or they would start to collapse in on themself, causing harm to the people around them.
Struggling with constantly being on the verge of Cyberpsychosis and an overflow of cyber-power, Vesper takes to vigilantism. Terrorizing Scav camps, specifically. They enact great and terrorizing amounts of violence from time to time to blow off steam. They don't ever speak about this to their peers, and keeps this behavior on the down-low. They wear a crow mask to hide their identity, and became a deeply mysterious, dangerous figure around the city. There were rumors of Corvid's (the name the media and gangs gave them) power and destruction that laid in their wake. Most who came in contact with them didn't live to tell the tale, so almost no information is known about this mysterious vigilante figure. Authorities never formally investigated this figure, as they never targeted the general public and generally made the NCPD's lives a bit easier.Vesper's Powers - Thanks to their experimental chrome, Vesper has some unqiue abilities that affect their everyday life. They are physically incapable of getting burned while netrunning. This is due to being exposed to immense, and constant amounts of cyber-stimuli and information. This, in turn, turned Vesper into a walking 'live wire'. Whenever Vesper touches someone who has any kind of cybernetics, the person touching them risks getting burned themselves from the sheer overload of stimuli. To avoid this, Vesper wears gloves at almost all times, and avoids getting physically close to people.

They hold a great amount of hate deep in their heart, that they desperately try to ignore and stifle. A very jaded individual.

Dreams + Aspirations.     In their youth, Vesper dreamed of making music and sharing with with as many people as possible. However, over the years that dream dissolved, and their primary goal became making it through the day. Even before the Relic entered their life, the experimental chrome inside of them made it hard for them to want anything other than peace in their own skin. Deep down, they just want mutual love and to be understood.  Personality     Initially can come across as aloof or skittish. Generally keeps people at arm's length. However, in conversation they are quite goofy and sarcastic; they are surprisingly charismatic when the need arises, and they use this to their advantage. Fixers either love or hate Vesper, there's very little in-between. They are very headstrong in their morals and will go against the gig's objective if it unfolds to be morally damning/actively harms innocent people. They are an incredible force to be reckoned with, and when they set their mind to something they will stop at nothing to achieve their goal.Often gullible, Vesper foolishly places trust in those who treat them with kindness and sincerity. This often backfires, and when Vesper's trust is betrayed they become cold, cruel, unforgiving, and scary. They are not to be crossed. Those who are familiar with Vesper know this all too well, and work to keep on their good side.Vesper is one of those people that seem really normal and almost kind of uptight, but after being in one (1) conversation with them you realize that they are actually a maniac in disguise. After the initial shock of Vesper acquiring The Relic, Johnny realizes with absolute horror the shitshow he's landed himself in. He's stuck in the body (and mind) of someone constantly on the edge of cyberpsycosis, and seemingly unbothered by this fact.
